EUTELSAT 21B was built by prime contractor Thales Alenia Space for Eutelsat Communications. It provides Ku-band telecommunications, data and broadband services over Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.
EUTELSAT 21B uses Thales Alenia Space’s Spacebus 4000 C3 platform. The satellite has a design lifetime exceeding 15 years and features 40 active Ku-band transponders. Eutelsat’s new 21B satellite was launched in November 2012 to 21.5° East, where it has replaced EUTELSAT 21A, launched in 1999. This spot is a major orbital position for data, professional video and government services for Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.
EUTELSAT 21B offers significantly increased capacity (40 Ku-band transponders versus 29 on EUTELSAT 21A) and improved power and coverage. The satellite features an enhanced widebeam across Europe into North Africa and Central Asia.
